IAN CARRE produced one of the best rounds of golf ever seen on the St Pierre Park par-three course and put it down to his move to the Royal Guernsey.
Carre, a seven handicap, shot a remarkable level-par 54 gross to win the scratch competition at the June Medal staged at St Pierre.
He shot six birdies and it all came after a disastrous treble-bogey opening. ‘I went long and out of bounds,’ said Carre. ‘I thought the wind was stronger than it was. It was only an inch out of bounds but an inch is enough.
‘It was not a good start and I also double-bogeyed the fifth. I lost my first ball there and had to play another provisional, but then the birdies started.’
