More pain under 5p green fuel tax
Friday 6th June 2008, 2:30PM BST.
MOTORISTS and householders could be clobbered with green taxes under initiatives announced today.
The Energy Policy Group is recommending investigating a carbon or energy tax that could add 5p per litre to all fuel oils and a vehicle-emissions tax that might put £3,125 on the price of a gas-guzzler.
Money raised would be invested in schemes such as a Guernsey Renewable Energy Commission to ensure tidal power is harnessed to its maximum potential and an Energy Advice Centre as tough new carbon targets are set.
Figures from the end of 2006 show the island falling back to 1990 levels of CO2 emissions. But the group wants new targets and recommends looking into the impact of cuts of 30% by 2020 and 80% by 2050.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Great idea, but the money should be put aside for just that – tidal power generators. The great rise and fall of tides in the Channel Islands must make it one of the best bets for using the sea to generate electricity. After the recent scare on Nucleur power stations, and the fact that experts reckon the next Atomic accident is overdue,ie,meltdown or similar, then the sooner the Islands can say to the French, thank you,but no thank you,the better.

Alderney already has its own commission for renewable energy. Are the Guernsey states going to exempt Alderney from this tax, or just bleed them a bit more?
