Tide power commission floated

Tidal power, such as that provided by this underwater turbine, could be considered for Guernsey if the island establishes a commission to develop tidal power.
A COMMISSION similar to one already set up in Alderney could be used to develop tidal power in Guernsey.
The Energy Policy Steering Group says that the States should not at this stage invest directly in large-scale renewable energy projects.
In recommending a commission be established, it changes the stance set out earlier that would have seen only Guernsey Electricity coming forward with plans for renewables.
The report says the group is conscious that relying solely on Guernsey Electricity using Marine Current Turbines system might leave the island too reliant on one technology.
