Sophie’s lucky escape
Saturday 7th June 2008, 9:29AM BST.
Sophie Skinner escaped with slight injuries and her scooter suffered only minor damage after it had become trapped underneath a reversing skip lorry.
SCOOTER rider Sophie Skinner was lucky to escape with only cuts and bruises after she and her bike became trapped under a reversing skip lorry.
As a result, the 16-year-old is warning others to stay vigilant on the roads. On Thursday morning, she was riding home from St Peter Port School after having sat her GCSE chemistry exam. She was behind a skip lorry as she approached the yellow line at Les Baissieres when it stopped and began reversing.
‘I started rolling my bike back, but he was still reversing. I was trying to keep the bike upright and go back at the same time, but I couldn’t and went under the lorry,’ said Miss Skinner.
When she finally alerted the driver to what had happened, he had no idea she was there. ‘He was just as shocked as I was and was more worried about what could have happened if I hadn’t got out,’ she said.
