Vale boss – ‘We’re not being awkward’

0589198.jpgVALE REC chief Paul Burnard yesterday explained his club’s reasons for rejecting the compromise offer made by the GFA board this week.

‘We are not deliberately being awkward,’ he said and added his club had no problems with the introduction of a 16 to 21 league but were against it on the grounds that youngsters who could not get a game in the revised GFA structure, could be lost to football.

Burnard (pictured) said he still harbours hopes that the matter can be resolved. ‘I’m hopeful that somehow or other we can get some sort of compromise. I agree with the objectives of what the GFA are trying to achieve. Only a fool would say Guernsey football doesn’t need some degree of change. I also have a lot of respect for the people on the board.’

But Burnard said Vale Rec could not support the controversial GFA proposal and that it was a unanimous decision made at a hastily arranged EGM.
