A LEADING member of Guernsey’s fund industry has paid tribute to Jeffrey Burton, former managing director of Barings. Described as an industry giant, Mr Burton, aged 55, died following an accident in Paris.

A St Martin’s resident, he leaves a wife, Clare, and children Andrew, Nicholas and Jemma. It is believed he was involved in a boating accident.

Horace Camp, a director of Anson Group, has known Mr Burton since his school days.  ‘Jeff has always been an authority figure for me, which started as a prefect at school and continued through my years in the fund industry.  Like me, he tried farming first but launched into finance and I think we can all count our lucky stars he did.

‘He was one of the major drivers of corporate business.  He captained Barings through its crisis.  He is the perfect proof of home-grown talent that grew our finance industry and he will be truly missed.’
