NEW funding options must be investigated before a States debate on prioritisation, according to Treasury minister Charles Parkinson.

He said that was imperative to allow the States to make an informed judgement on which capital projects came first in a period of reduced finances.

‘Some of them are quite pressing and non-optionable in the case of the airport runway, but the two secondary schools at Les Beaucamps and La Mare de Carteret are still waiting. We have failed to deliver as yet on promises made in 2001.’

Deputy Parkinson, speaking at a Confederation of Guernsey Industry seminar, said the States had still not had a proper debate on prioritisation but that when the Government Business Plan came back to the House, Treasury was charged with leading the debate on prioritisation.
