THREE islanders have been recognised in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
Andy Priaulx, Alison Frankland and Christine Anthony have each been awarded an MBE, becoming members of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
Alison Frankland was honoured for voluntary services to swimming in Guernsey. An emotional Mrs Frankland said she was overwhelmed and would never have achieved so much without support from family and friends. ‘I thought of my dad and if he were still alive, how proud he would be of me,’ she said.
Reigning World Touring Cars champion Andy Priaulx was preparing for his fifth race of the season in Brno, Czech Republic, tomorrow when wife Jo called to say they had received official confirmation of the award. ‘It only really sank in when Jo said the letter was addressed to Andy Priaulx MBE. That is just special,’ he said.
Christine Anthony has been pivotal in developing the island’s music services – for which she has been recognised. ‘I’m amazed and happy, but very, very shocked,’ said the head of vocal studies at the music service. ‘It’s just not the sort of thing that happens to people like me.’

An Honours List award for Andy Priaulx is long overdue. His contribution to his particular sport together with his unofficial ambassadorial role for Guernsey, over the last few years, has been immense.
