Tom Scott ‘mystery buyer’ of Belvedere
Monday 16th June 2008, 2:30PM BST.
A small crowd attended the auction of Belvedere House.
MULTI-MILLIONAIRE Tom Scott is set to become the new owner of Belvedere House.
He has emerged as the mystery bidder for the £5m. property, which was sold by the States last week. The identity of the purchaser will not be officially released until 10 July, when contracts are signed.
However, the Guernsey Press has established that the man and his family estimated by the Sunday Times Rich List to be worth £200m. are looking to move into one of the island’s premier properties.
Asked about his acquisition yesterday, Mr Scott, pictured left, said: ‘Look, this is Sunday and I don’t work on the Sabbath.’ Deputy Treasury and Resources Resources minister Jack Honeybill was similarly coy.
‘Although I have an idea who has agreed to buy Belvedere House, officially it is not bought until 10 July when contracts are passed and Nick Renny [of Martel Maides] made that clear at the auction,’ he said.

Couldn’t they have knocked it down and built five bungalows there instead? Or put all the old folk there who are so terribly inefficient with their use of space? Does that one family knocking around in that large property have more rights than a penniless pensioner when it comes to using land?

Good result I reckon.
Shame that the anti-Scott assembly seem to be gathering their disdain already…stand by for outraged parishoners banging on about losing their heritage etc etc.

Not sure why anyone has any right to comment over who owns it – its just a house after all. Expensive for some, but these days £5m is not an outlandish price – many homes in Fort George and Village De Putron are probably not far off that figure.
Clearly no one likes a winner – odd considering that most of Guernsey enjoy a high standard of living due to the management of wealth owned by people like Mr Scott. Fair play to him – nice house!

YAWN. Tom Scott again… YAWN.
They’ll be commenting on his toilet habits next, is anyone REALLY THAT INTERESTED?
