GFA: Former Muratti man becomes chairman
MARK LE TISSIER, elder brother of ‘Le God’ himself, has been confirmed as the new chairman of the Guernsey Football Association. The former Vale Rec and Muratti player turned referee yesterday agreed to step up into the role having sat on the board as director of representative football.
In a statement released yesterday afternoon, he said: ‘I am delighted to have been elected to lead Guernsey football through a crucial stage of its development and look forward to working with the clubs over this season to deliver our National Game Strategy and take Guernsey football into a
new era.’
It seems Le Tissier will be a popular choice among the clubs who did not put forward any nominations for the vacant positions at Thursday’s AGM.
‘Mark was mentioned as a possible replacement [at the AGM] and we’ve no objection to that,’ said Rovers secretary Brian Horsepool.
‘He’s a football man and he’s probably come out of all of this without any adverse reaction. He hasn’t antagonised people.
‘Rovers would be happy with Mark if it came to it. We just want to get on with it [the plan] now.’
St Martin’s president Henry Davey is a big fan of Le Tissier.
‘I’ve got great respect for him and I think he’d be very good,’ said Davey.
‘It was him and Garry Cortez who got the representative games back to the clubs from Foote’s Lane. My dealings with him have always been very good.’
The AGM also noted the resignation of vice-chairman Jeff Vidamour.
Vidamour’s son Mark did not seek re-election as the company secretary, nor did Graham Skuse as director of refereeing.
One board member who does stay on is James Blower, the former Norfolk County centre-forward, who will combine his commercial responsibilities role with serving as vice-chairman.
Blower said he would lead the search for a new company secretary.
Further appointments will follow and the new board will meet for the first time on 1 July.
