Stop line to cut crashes
Saturday 21st June 2008, 11:34AM BST.
Taking action: This was the most recent crash at the accident black spot junction, but Environment has agreed to have a yellow line painted at the end of Rouge Huis Avenue in a bid to end them.
A YELLOW line will be painted at the end of Rouge Huis Avenue in an effort to reduce accidents at its junction with Brock and Doyle roads.
People living in the area said collisions or near misses were happening on a regular basis and had called for steps to be taken to improve things.
Following a meeting between its staff and the the St Peter Port constables, Environment said a yellow line would replace the existing give-way.
‘It is further proposed that staff meet police on site to discuss the reported accident history and the causes of the recent accidents and to consider whether any further remedial measures would be practical,’ said a spokesman.
A spokesman for the constables said the move had been welcomed.
‘The constables have been in discussion for some time with Environment’s traffic section relating to measures in general and particularly the problem posed by this junction,’ he said.
‘The intention is to find a more robust management scheme for this accident black spot.’
