Kings gives director the boot

0531100.jpgTHE Guernsey Squash Racquets Association is to hold an emergency meeting tonight to discuss the future of squash in the island.

Amid accusations of unpaid bills and a ban on the sport’s development officer from Kings Life, it is thought two major issues will be discussed – a new director of island squash and the GSRA’s relationship with squash centres.

The meeting comes at the time of an unresolved financial dispute with money allegedly being owed to private members club Kings Life, by the GSRA, Guernsey’s outgoing director of squash Peter Bridgeman (pictured) and assistant director Martin Watts who have been banned from using the club.

‘We have communicated to the GSRA on many occasions that we are a privately funded business which does not have the benefit of £13m. capital funding and £1.2m. of grants per annum from the States like Beau Sejour and cannot allow the current situation to continue any longer, particularly when only a minority (2.5%) of our own members regularly use the squash facilities at the club,’ said a Kings Life spokesman.

Bridgeman disputes the Kings Life claims and says its invoices are incorrect. ‘They just want us out,’ he said.
