New French connection

THE Guernsey Squash Rackets Association has unveiled the island’s new director of squash. From August, 27-year-old Frenchman Benjamin Rosel will take over the mantle.
‘We feel that this guy will take our seniors and juniors to the next level,’ said GSRA president, Carrie Birch (pictured). Le Mans native Rosel is ranked number 34 in France and turns out for Brest in the French Premier League. The GSRA received more than 30 applicants for the position when it advertised on its website. They picked Rosel after they were impressed by his enthusiasm.
‘He’s a dynamic bundle of energy,’ said Birch. He takes over from Peter Bridgeman. The Welshman has stepped down for personal reasons which Birch revealed were unconnected with the well-publicised ongoing saga between the GSRA and the owners of Kings Club, Kings Life.
Bridgeman and the assistant director of squash, Martin Watts, are currently banned from Kings, which has been the home of Guernsey squash for years, while issues over unpaid court bills are being resolved.
