SPIN to win. That was the MCC’s motto yesterday as their slow bowlers stifled any chance of the Guernsey Island Cricket Club overcoming the visitors’ total of 224 on a slow KGV wicket yesterday.
The home side ended up on 213 and – with two wickets left – the match, which was a declaration game, resulted in a draw.
‘It was a good game and you could say that cricket was the winner,’ said GICC captain Mark Clapham. ‘It was a fighting draw. We were only 12 runs short [of victory] and they had had four more overs than us. Their spinners made the difference.
‘They came on and shut it up. We had a great start but unfortunately our middle order didn’t quite keep the tempo up.’
