OLYMPICS hopeful Teresa Roberts smashed two records at the last St Peter Port Secondary School Sports Day at Foote’s Lane.

The 13-year-old Year 8 pupil set a new best time of 13.1sec. for the 100m and 28.2 for the 200m – eclipsing the previous records in both sprints in her age group by 0.3sec.

‘I’m overjoyed – it’s really good,’ said the promising GIAAC athlete. She is dreaming of a glittering career in the sport. ‘I hope to be a champion athlete for Great Britain,’ she said.

‘I want to go to the Olympics and I think I have the ability to get gold in the 100m and 200m,’ said the confident youngster. Head of PE Jill Pritchard is predicting a bright future for Roberts.

‘Her biggest disadvantage is being on a small island but she is innately quick and has very supportive parents. We are nurturing her very carefully and potentially she could be the most outstanding athlete across the board we have ever had,’ she said.
