GUERNSEY Post is staying in Smith Street. But Town’s main post office is moving – across the road.

The States-owned utility is taking over the former Oil & Vinegar shop and will pay a third less rent than it does for Nelson Place. ‘We are delighted to have secured a lease on this property and we can now look forward to providing our customers with a new flagship post office in the heart of Town,’ said chief executive Gordon Steele.

The new post office will include a shop which will sell cards, gifts and stationery. ‘We have been selling limited ranges of products with some success and it’s natural for customers to want to buy things like greetings cards at the place where they send them,’ said Mr Steele.

It had been looking for a new home for months because its current headquarters is being sold as part of the States’ property rationalisation programme. A proposed move to the Guernsey Information Centre fell through, to Guernsey Post’s disappointment.
