THE Channel Islands had a poor time on the fourth day at the Foster’s World 8-Ball Championships in Blackpool. But on the second day of junior action, a solitary win still gave the team hope of qualifying for the semi-finals.
After beginning the day in joint second place, the CI team were up against England, who were top with the only 100% record. Unfortunately for the islanders, this record continued as England comprehensively won 11-4.
It meant that a victory against Malta in the CI’s middle game of the day was essential to keep their dreams alive. The team duly delivered. With the help of Guernsey youngsters Jess de la Haye and James Kirk, the Channel Islanders edged out the Maltese by eight frames to seven.
However, the qualification situation for the CI got worse again when they lost 9-6 in their final match of the day against the Indian team.
