AN ADVOCATE’S efforts on his bicycle have raised nearly £6,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice development fund.
Ian Beattie rode 30 times up Le Val des Terres on Saturday afternoon, having previously completed the 30/30 Challenge. The climbs took him two hours 50 minutes and supporters collected £1,825 in buckets.
‘It was brilliant,’ said Advocate Beattie. ‘People were so generous in every way. There was the generosity of people who assisted me and the people who gave money. Then there were the drivers who put up with me delaying them on the hill.
‘Seeing the good side of everyone was my abiding memory.’ Advocate Beattie said his thighs had ached during the first two or three climbs. The feeling wore off, but returned when he had about five to go.
‘It was a question of plugging away, as if I’d pushed myself I could have blown up very easily,’ he said.
