Golden girl Elwin leads list of medal winners

MEMBERS of the Special Olympics swimming group have taken part in the British Long Distance Swimming Association’s annual postal swim with great results.postal swim with great results.
The event attracts swimmers from around the world with swimmers aiming to swim as many meters as possible in one hour. Competing in the H3 category, 16-year-old Rebecca Elwin excelled winning gold in her age group with a great swim of 1,602m.
Amy Holland received a silver medal in her age group with her superb effort of 1826m. She held her front crawl stroke for the whole distance and really never seemed to tire finishing just one metre ahead of the swimmer from Bingham Penguins. Matthew Vile put in a great performance completing 1000m to place third in his age group.
In the men’s 40 years section (category H3) Kevin Parsons, David Parsons and Simon Ozanne placed third, fourth and fifth recording 1,804m, 1,015m and 450m respectively. Thomas Lowe, 16, who has made great progress with his swimming recently, managed 1,400m to place sixth in his age group.
