TWO runners have set up their own Marathon Club. They are Peter Head, who is a veteran marathon runner, and Gary Falla, who is a relative newcomer to the sport.
Head, who has taken part in nearly 30 marathons for charity dating back 25 years, said that it was his friend Falla who came up with the idea. ‘I was talking with him the other day and he suggested that it would be a good idea to set up a club.
‘It’s a great idea because it gives the chance to people who have wanted to do marathons but didn’t know how to go about it,’ he said.
Falla himself did his first marathon only in 2004 in Chicago alongside Head, who helped to train him. And Head chooses that marathon as his favourite. ‘I ran it with Gary, who was frightened of even walking a mile before he did that. Chicago was also my only marathon outside of the UK, so it was special for that reason as well.’
