DRINKERS around the island have given a warm welcome to a proof-of-age card that was being promoted at the weekend.

Ship & Crown and Maximum Security staff were out highlighting the benefits of the Citizencard to young drinkers. On Friday night, Town was targeted.

‘It was quite a quiet night so there weren’t that many people to talk to, but those we did speak to gave a very positive response and we put out lots of leaflets, so hopefully people will pick them up,’ said promoter Abigail Downing, 20. Saturday night saw the focus move to out-of-Town establishments. The beginning of the night was again quiet.

‘But everyone I’ve spoken to has been positive about it. Some read about the scheme and knew we’d be out promoting it, so they were keen to take leaflets.’ She plans to apply for the card, as does Sophie Platts, 18, who was also handing out leaflets on Saturday.
