RESIDENTS are divided over how effective new traffic plans will be for Baubigny and Les Gigands. Raised boxes are to be built at the junctions between Les Gigands and La Rue de l’Epinelle and Baubigny and Bordage roads. It is hoped they will slow traffic.
Residents Frank and Esme Marquis have lived in Baubigny Road for more than 50 years. We’ve been here a long time,’ said Mr Marquis. ‘We’ve seen a lot of things. When the packing sheds were down the road, we used to have Condor lorries along here and the roads coped then.’
The couple has been frustrated by events following initial consultations with the States, which took place two years ago. ‘Look at the schools down at Capelles and the problems there are there. Imagine what it will be like here… No one listens. It’s all up in the air and no one knows what is happening – they’re just fumbling their way through.’
Norma Brassell and her grown-up daughter, Julie Creed, have lived in Baubigny Road for two years. While they feel the plans are a good idea, they are not sure how it will affect residents. ‘It will be good for the children but it will be difficult for us,’ said Mrs Creed.

I agree that some kind of traffic measures were needed but I wonder if they have taken it a bit too far. My parents live within this area and their driveway has been tight at the best of times, making it difficult to get in from one side, so it wont be ideal for them by any means. But with the school being built where it has, something was needed and I suppose this is the way it has to be!

Traffic humps are a 24 hour joke. School opening/closing times last barely 2hrs a day. Namely this is a measure that is a completely inept 22hrs a day (a ratio pretty standard across most States policies).
The school ‘crush’ (traffic jam) already creates all the traffic calming measures neccessary. Try getting past a school at opening/closing time at more than 5mph!
The truth is most schools are badly designed (as is this one) regards allowing good access to drop-off or pick-up the kids. The States have repeated their mistakes positioning a school in already cramped roads. It’s a nother traffic jam created by your inept politicians whose common sense leaves them when entering the States.
