A TRIO of Guernsey players have been selected for the Great Britain team in the Fast-pitch Softball European Championships. Held at the Amager Vikings ground in Copenhagen, Denmark, next week, the competition features the best teams in Europe.
Marco Silvestri (pictured), Curt Taylor and JP Mauger will be helping the British team do battle against them. ‘I’m really looking forward to it,’ said Silvestri, 25.
‘It’s certainly the biggest event at the highest standard I’ve played in. It’s basically the softball version of the football Euros. It features the finest teams in Europe. I’m very nervous.’
The NRG Rangers outfielder has played for Great Britain for the last three seasons. However, he was not certain that he was going to be picked this year. ‘I don’t feel I’ve played well locally this season,’ he said. ‘I must have performed in training, but it’s come as a complete surprise, to be honest.’
