Trott may face ban
Saturday 26th July 2008, 9:29AM BST.
CHIEF Minister Lyndon Trott faces punishment ranging from a caution to expulsion if a formal complaint made about his conduct is upheld.
The matter has been referred by Deputy Barry Brehaut (pictured) to the chairman of the States Members’ Conduct Panel, Chris Day. If Mr Day feels there is evidence to support the complaint, it will be passed to a three-person panel comprising the chairman, someone nominated by him and someone nominated by Deputy Trott as the person being investigated.
If the panel upholds the complaint, but is a minor breach, Deputy Trott will be cautioned and a report made public.
If it then decides he should be formally reprimanded, suspended or expelled, it will report its findings to the House Committee, which in turn presents its recommendations to the States. Deputy Trott could also be suspended – either as a member of the States or from his role as chief minister.

Deputy Trott is the Chief Minister.
It would have been better for the heading to be Chief Minister may face ban or Deouty Trott may face ban” or better still, “CM may face ban”.
Mr Mann, even in today’s political world there is still room for respect for a person and their position.

I think you’ve got that wrong, Mr John. Nonentities like you and me have need of titles; the truely famous in every field have always been referred to by just one word. Churchill, Attlee, Kennedy, Thatcher etc have no need for honourifics.

Respect has to be earned, not demanded…

I was horrified to notice that Ted included Thatcher in the group of truly famous political leaders such as Churchill, Atlee and Kennedy.
The Falklands war saved her reputation, to a degree, but one can never forget the destruction she did to the manufacturing industry in middle England and the 3+ mil unemployed. She brought on the early nineties recession with Major’s ridiculously high interest rates.
A dreadful, uncaring and self opinionated woman who married into money.

B. L. Cumner, what comments indeed. Speaking as someone who was in the UK at the time, she also did a huge amount of good. Forgive me if I am wrong but was is not a world recession, just like the one we may be heading into now, and if I recall, it was not one country’s government who bought it on least all Mrs Thatcher. I do agree with Mr John though, Deputy Trott is the Chief Minister and as such should be afforded the respect the position deserves. I was once told when working in a disciplined service that you may not like the man in the uniform, but you respect the rank and position, perhaps as shown in the headline the reporter may not!

Thatcher has proved a disaster. Just like the naysayers at the time predicted, society is eroded by the grabbing masses after a cheap thrill. That’s her legacy. That and rampant corporate power. We now live in an undemocratic world led by business with governments forced to make societal decisions based on manipulating the market to appease fat cats.
It has happened in Guernsey too. Our political hands are tied because of decisions made to benefit the wealthy minority. But back to the thread.
Why is it taking so long for a statement to be released? This is an easy case of cause and effect, surely fairly black and white.
He’s either transgressed the code and ought to be punished, or not. Is there some ‘pressure’ on the reviewers to find the ‘right’ outcome?
