MORE than 60 pubs, restaurants and nightclubs are backing an anti-drink-drive campaign and will feature promotional material.

Posters, beer mats featuring the telephone numbers of taxi firms, and staff T-shirts will help promote the first summer campaign to warn people about the consequences of driving while under the influence.

The campaign has already seen a lot of activity, with a plane towing an anti-drink-drive message around the island and police carrying out roadside breath checks being the highlights so far and now licensees are showing their support.

Mark Pontin of the Ship & Crown said a summer campaign was a good idea.  ‘Just as many people go out in the summer as they do in the winter,’ he said. ‘I think the beer mats and the T-shirts will make a difference. If anyone is in any doubt about how to get a taxi, I’m sure they can ask in any of the pubs and bar staff would phone one. The campaign will be well supported by licensees – we are happy to help in any way we can.’
