European bronze for Argent
Thursday 31st July 2008, 2:29PM BST.
FIONA ARGENT has just come back from the European Veterans Athletics Championships with bronze in the heptathlon.
Held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the local athlete (pictured) was taking part in the 50 years old to 54 women’s category for the multi-event discipline.
It was the first time that she has competed in the heptathlon. As a runner, Argent in the past has won gold at the British and Irish National Masters Championships.
‘I’m absolutely delighted considering it was my first heptathlon,’ she said. ‘I feel very pleased and it was obviously a good decision to have moved to multi events. It was a leap into the unknown. It all went very well, apart from the long jump.’
