Chief apologises, complaint withdrawn – but row goes on
Friday 1st August 2008, 2:29PM BST.
CHIEF MINISTER Lyndon Trott has admitted he might have acted inappropriately towards Deputy Barry Brehaut and apologised for his actions.
And the complaint made against him by Deputy Brehaut has now been dropped. However, Deputy Brehaut (pictured) explained: ‘It’s important to note that I did not pursue the complaint to the panel for one reason only – the chief minister would have been put in a situation where he would have been contradicted by senior members of his own staff.
‘I agreed with the apology, but still believe that it was a breach under section nine [of the members’ code of conduct]. As politicians, there are times when we’re all under pressure but how people react is the telling thing and the chief minister’s reaction has been well documented,’ he said today.
The duo had an altercation in the corridors of Sir Charles Frossard House following a meeting between Deputy Trott, senior Policy Council staff and members of the Public Sector Remuneration Committee, which included Deputy Brehaut.
Deputy Trott said the matter was now closed and had nothing further to add.
