‘Customer care’ emails spark alert
Saturday 2nd August 2008, 9:30AM BST.
ISLANDERS are being warned to avoid an email scam. Anyone receiving one from customer.care83@live.com should delete it immediately.
They masquerade as official communications from an email service’s messaging centre and ask for key information such as user name, password and date of birth.
The message even threatens to shut down the account if the information is not sent through.
The email is one of many phishing scams targeting email services, including cwgsy.net users, managed by Sure. There are around 60,000 people with cwgsy.net email addresses.
Sure’s head of PR Steve Smith (pictured) said that measures had been taken to minimise any damage caused by the scam.
