Swiss date for star
Saturday 2nd August 2008, 9:30AM BST.
HEATHER WATSON has helped Great Britain to the finals of the European Summer Cup in Switzerland next week. The 16-year-old Guernsey star has had an incredibly busy summer that has seen her compete in Junior Wimbledon and other prestigious tournaments in Germany, Austria and most recently Moscow for the European Under-16 Championships.
This week she has been playing at Queenswood, Hertfordshire, in the girls’ under-16s European Summer Cup qualifiers. Watson’s doubles partner from Wimbledon, Tara Moore, along with Sheffield’s Jennifer Ren, joined her in the British team.
To reach the qualifying final where they beat last year’s champions, the Netherlands, 2-1, they first defeated France by the same scoreline. In that match Watson picked up the notable scalp of Chloe Babet.
The Parisian has been picked out as a future star but an inspired Watson had little problems getting past her 6-2, 6-1.
