Development is the most important job

BELS may have set a precedent as being the first club to advertise for a paid development officer.

As part of their newly-acquired FA Charter Status Accreditation, the champions of the last Priaulx League, have put an advert in the Guernsey Press for someone to run their juniors and minis section, which has around 100 young players.

There is a possibility that other clubs will follow suit as development is becoming more crucial as other sports in the island are eating into the number of children who play the sport which traditionally has always been its most popular.

Bels president Hilary Sarre has been fulfilling the role, but he is finding it increasingly difficult to give it his full attention.
