THE typhoon in southern China has seriously dented Dale Garland’s hopes of running in the Olympic Games.

The 27-year-old athlete is part of the Great Britain 4x400m relay squad who have been at a training camp in Macau this week ahead of the Beijing Olympics that start in earnest today with the opening ceremony.

This week’s typhoon that has ravaged Macau and the surrounding southern Chinese coast resulted in him not being able to leave the hotel on Wednesday.

And the high winds that followed it yesterday also meant that they could not catch a high-speed ferry to Hong Kong so that they could race against Australia’s 4x400m team.
