THE introduction of tax on real property in Alderney could cause irreparable damage to business, according to the island’s Chamber of Commerce.

In a letter to Chief Minister Lyndon Trott, Alderney chamber president Andrew Eggleston questioned if Guernsey States members understood how the other island worked and paid its way.

‘Many people are completely unaware that, just to take one example, 3% of every property transaction is made payable to the States of Guernsey,’ he said.

Income tax was also payable to Guernsey, he said.

‘Now we have TRP – in other words a greatly enhanced cadastre.’
