POLICE are closing in on a youth who kicked a cat to death, it emerged yesterday.
They have been given a name and, following inquiries, have revealed that only one person was responsible for the death of the animal at the Grand Bouet estate last month.
And they are appealing for any witnesses to the killing, which has horrified islanders, to come forward to help with a prosecution.
Although police understand that a group had gathered in the area at the time, they now believe that only one teenager actually committed the attack that resulted in the cat’s death.
‘We know that there was a group of five or six people involved in this incident, but we know that just one person kicked the cat,’ said Inspector Terry Coule.
‘We are asking for those people who were in that group to come forward to speak to the police officer investigating this matter.’

Yes there’s a big fuss to find the idiot now but once they find him you know as well as me all he will get is a talking to and asked why he did it, some do gooder will say it’s because of problems in his family life it’s not really his fault, it won’t go much further than that, possibly an hour or two of community service but I wouldn’t bank on it…
When oh when will the island make an example of someone as a deterrent for others ?

This cowardly crime adds weight to the recent survey questioning whether the Birch should be re-introduced.

Indeed bring back the birch. The coward who attacked and killed this poor cat should be the first to receive the birch.

It is terrible to see us ‘intelligent’ animals inflict cruelty on less self-conscious species. But ‘the birch’?
Wise up. Hitting a stupid teenager with a sharp stick will only reinforce the idea that might is right. Nothing ‘do-gooder’ about it. The sentencer would be as morally objectionable as the perpetrator of the original crime.
If you would go back to the ‘eye for an eye’ punishment, then why not get the perp’s most prize life, maybe the mother, at least the dog, and punish it front of their eyes???
    Ridiculous, antiquated and barbaric.
Get the guy (I’m assuming they were male as this seems to be a peer related show of antiestablishment), name them if needs be (it sort of works in our insulated world) and punishthem by denial of liberties, but violence must not be an option.
The action of killing an animal is abhorrent, but I’ll wager that the commentators love a nice bit of steak.

I say still name and shame him then, if you know who he is and take him to court. This poor lady has lost her adorable pet, to a ruthless and callous idiot..she will never get over somthing like this..but the culprit will I bet.
Guernsey do what you should do, this sort of crime should not be allowed.
All pets have a right to be here..shame some human beings have to be though.

According to leading mental health professionals and the police, perpetrators of violent acts against animals are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat not only to other animals but also to the community as a whole.”
