REPORTS that Ryanair could be lining up a £2bn bid for Stansted Airport have received a lukewarm response from Malcolm Hart of Aurigny.
The managing director of the States-owned airline said he did not believe it would be in the best interests of the airport or other airlines that use it if BAA was forced to sell.
Mr Hart also doubted whether Ryanair possessed the financial clout to carry out the improvements needed at Stansted.
‘I think the investment plans they have to make at Stansted for the runway need someone of BAA’s substance to fulfil them.
‘Because of the credit crunch, the sort of money that Ryanair could have raised to carry out what needs to be done may not be there now and I’m not sure if they could manage it.’
