IT is unusual to have feet tapping to Tina Turner at a funeral service.
But for more than 400 people at Paul Le Page’s service, it was the kind of celebration of life he would have wanted.
The service was held in a field outside the Houmet Tavern in the Vale.
‘My husband loved Rousse,’ said Mr Le Page’s widow, Colleen. ‘There was nowhere more fitting to hold this event. He loved fishing from here.’
A former builder, Mr Le Page was known as Joe to his friends.
He died suddenly of septicemia on 27 July while on holiday in Weymouth. He was 55.
‘It was a terrible tragedy. Funnily enough, this has been a happy occasion. There is nothing to be sombre about.’
Guests were dressed in bright clothes and only the coffin bearers were in suits.
The 200 seats were filled and there was a large crowd surrounding the service.
