NORTH won the first silverware of the season last night after an entertaining victory over Bels at the Track to win the Martinez Cup.
Alex Le Prevost netted a scrappy winner in what was an end-to-end battle between Guernsey’s premier sides.
Bels started much brighter and within 10 minutes they were two goals to the good and it could really have been four or five.
Matt Drillot opened the scoring inside three minutes by reacting first in the six-yard box after a header from Billy Page to slot the ball calmly past the onrushing Richard Davey.
Drillot then doubled both his and his team’s tally when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box from a corner and he lashed it into the top corner, leaving North in disarray.
But the FA Cup winners slowly fought their way back into the game and reduced the deficit when AJ Saunders found himself unmarked in the area to put home North’s first goal of the season.
