Heather Watson. (0619408).
HEATHER WATSON has made it through to the quarter-finals of the British Junior National Championships under-18 singles.
The 16-year-old Guernsey star defeated Samantha Vickers, 17, of Sleaford, Lincolnshire, yesterday afternoon.
The score was 6-4, 6-3 in favour of the Sarnian who won the under-16 national title last year.
Watson had to come from 2-1 down in the second set to win a match which, due to rain, was moved indoors at the LTA headquarters in Roehampton.
‘It was really close and I had to grind it out,’ said Watson.
‘She was playing really well and I had to battle it out in the second set.
‘I was really proud of the way I battled. I could have let it slip.’
