PHIL GUILLOU has kept himself in the running for the New Era 250 Grand Prix Championship with a good showing at Donington at the weekend.
The local motorbike racer came runner-up in both of the meeting’s two races.
It means that he is now joint second in the series.
‘I’m pleased with the points,’ he said.
‘It’s closed the championship right down. It’s well in reach now.’
Guillou went into the meeting having won the previous two rounds at Snetterton.
In what looked like dry conditions, the Sarnian went out to race in the qualifying session on slick tyres.
But as soon as he got out onto the track, the heavens opened and the session was red-flagged after just one lap due to riders crashing out.
When it was restarted, Guillou managed only one lap so he ended up starting from the back of the grid.
‘With the weather conditions it would have been silly to have pushed it hard,’ he said.
