GUERNSEY has been presented to the Olympic nations as a possible training venue for five sports for the London 2012 Games.
Early this year the island’s archery, athletics, badminton, sailing and table tennis facilities were deemed good enough by the London Olympic Games’ Organisation Committee to be used by countries as training camps before the Games.
The website, trainingcamps.london2012.com [there is no ‘www.’ before it], is now up and running with details of all the training camps available in Great Britain, including Guernsey.
The member nations will now decided as to where they want to train.
‘It looks a good site, easy to navigate,’ said the island’s Sport Development manager, Graham Chester.
‘Let’s take it from here and see what happens. It’d be nice if somebody did choose us.’
Chester also said that former deputy chief minister, Stuart Falla, who is currently a spectator at the Beijing Games, has taken some ‘business cards as a marketing ploy’ and will be promoting the island to Olympic dignitaries.

It is a shame Guernsey does not appear on the map on the front page of the site. Not easy to find Guernsey unless your search for it.
