SETTLING the public service workers’ pay dispute with a tribunal will be a waste of money, it was claimed yesterday.
Delegates at an all-unions meeting said the Public Sector Remuneration Committee’s decision to leave the negotiating table would ultimately cost the States even more money.
Ed Freestone of the Association of Guernsey Civil Servants said going to a tribunal would be a misuse of resources.
‘The money could have been used to produce a constructive conclusion,’ he said.
‘That would have been a better use of resources because everybody would walk out with a pay deal and we wouldn’t be stuck in the trenches as we are at the moment.
‘We are looking for win-win solutions and not confrontation.’
The meeting of the Association of States Employees’ Organisations was held at Unite’s office in Commercial Road, St Sampson’s.
