HEATHER WATSON went out of the British Junior National Championships under-18s’ singles event at the hands of her doubles partner Tara Moore yesterday.
Playing at the LTA’s headquarters in Roehampton, the 16-year-old Guernsey tennis star lost the third set 5-7 to seal her exit at the semi-final stage.
‘I’m so very disappointed,’ she said.
‘It was so close and I really, really wanted it. We both did.
‘I was so upset at the end.’
Watson, who was seeded fifth for the singles competition, found herself down 4-0 in the first set.
But she showed her trademark grit and determination to bounce back to claim the opener 7-6.
Number one seed Moore then rallied herself to claim the second 6-2.
Not to be outdone, Watson grabbed the advantage in the third and deciding set to go 5-3 up.
But the world number 85 could not hold off her good friend Moore who won the decider 7-5 and the rubber.
