A MAJOR sponsor of the North Show is backing the Bailiff’s call for businesses to lend not only money but manpower to ensure community events thrive.
Sophie Knight, of De Putron Fund Management (Guernsey) Ltd, says that the company already provided significant funding to the show’s organising committee to help cover running costs, as well as other entertainment and the firework display.
But she agreed with the Bailiff that all local businesses, whether financial or commercial, had a responsibility to support the community in which they operated.
‘The Bailiff definitely has a point,’ she said. ‘We are a local company, the community serves us well and we want to make sure that we return that help.
‘Obviously financial help is vital but speaking to some of the North Show committee members, it is also manpower that is needed.
‘They need volunteers to help with the setting up and running of the event, as well as the end of show clear-up.
‘This is true of many local organisations and the point that, I think, the Bailiff is making is that although companies can be very generous from a financial perspective, and this is not to be belittled, of equal importance is the physical support in terms of manpower and time.’
