JERSEY’S dominance of the junior inter-insular shows no signs of abating.
The young Caesareans came to L’Ancresse at the weekend and swept the hosts aside with a relentless display of excellent shot execution.
If to give up just one point last year at home was highly impressive, to travel to your main rivals’ own backyard and not give them a sniff of a chance was in a different league.
It left Guernsey Junior Club president Colin ‘Bill’ Le Huray absolutely stunned.
‘I cannot believe it – I’m shocked,’ he said with a shake of the head.
‘We just have not learnt our lessons from La Moye [last year].
‘We turn up and think it’s going to happen, but it doesn’t. I don’t know how to remedy that.
‘We have been outplayed by the Jersey team again.’
The writing was on the wall by mid-morning on Saturday during the opening foursomes when Guernsey found themselves down in all four rubbers before the turn.
By the end of the session it looked as if Sam Le Huray and Danny Carre might provide their side with the crumb of comfort of at least a half point as they won the 17th to level their match against Harry Steel and James Newton.
But with both pairings’ tee shots safely on the green at the last, Le Huray’s long birdie putt was heavy and Carre’s return par attempt agonisingly lipped out to give the visitors a full house of four points.
‘You just cannot give 4-0 leads away, no matter what level you are playing at,’ said the GJGC president.
‘You are not going to come back from it.’
