NICK SAUNDERS was again the only man to break the 30sec. barrier in yesterday’s hill climb up Le Val des Terres.
Although he did not beat his own fastest time, 10 new records were set on what was a fast afternoon.
One of the best encounters of the day was between Tim Tulie and Mark Le Cras, in which both men bettered the previous record twice out of three attempts.
A similar rivalry was present in the classic cars section, where Jim Langlois and Mike Ozanne both obliterated the latter’s record on every one of their runs, with Langlois eventually recording the faster time.
Both men said they were not necessarily aiming for the record at the start of the day, with Langlois pointing out his lack of preparation time.
‘We only arrived back in Guernsey on the boat late last night. Because of that, I haven’t had the chance to make any adjustments to my car at all.’
Robert Stanford, who bettered his personal best in the modified saloons class, believed that the conditions were beneficial for fast racing.
‘I’ve spoken to a few of the other lads and they think it isn’t that easy to drive up there. But I’ve found that it has gripped really well.’
The 18-year-old was also pleased with his progress at each passing hill climb meeting.
‘Every time I come here, I set myself a target and I have met it each time.’
