AT THE height of the competition season, there have been 100-target club championship and selection shoots on most Sundays throughout July.
The sport trap club championship was contested by 16 competitors each shooting four rounds of 25 targets.
After the first round, Dean Wilson, Steve Rogers and Fausto Giovinazzi were equal at the top of the leader board with 23 broken targets.
Wilson held the lead through the second round with a further score of 20, but a 23 from young shooter James Ashplant pushed him from joint sixth into second place, ahead of his father, Andy, and Martin Domaille in joint third.
A superb third round score of 24 ex 25 by Ashplant jnr provided a comfortable lead of five targets over both Rogers and Wilson.
In the final round, that lead was increased by a further point to enable James Ashplant to claim the championship with a total of 87 ex 100 ahead of Rogers (81) and Andy Ashplant (79).
Noel Duquemin has recently travelled to Italy to have a new stock custom-made for his skeet gun and, in the Olympic skeet club championship had no intention of taking any prisoners.
In the first round he scored 21 targets broken, one ahead of James Rouget, with Jim Whitmore following with a score of 18, and held his top position for the rest of the competition.
After the second round, Rouget was still in second and Graeme Corbin had moved up to fill the third slot. He moved up again after round three into second.
The final positions were Duquemin in first followed by Corbin, Rouget and Whitmore.
