MORE than a third of the island’s companies have made themselves known to the new Guernsey Registry.
It has so far incorporated 209 new companies and reregistered 5,743.
In addition, nearly 6,000 company directors have registered their details with the office.
Mark Whiteley from Guernsey Registry said the office, which opened on 1 July as part of the introduction of
a new companies law, hoped to reregister all businesses by the end of October.
‘We are very busy because a lot of people have a lot of questions due to this being still a new thing,’ he told an audience of business people at a presentation.
He said presentations had been put on in recent months so that businesses could understand what was required and why the new electronic registry system had been developed.
‘We have been communicating with businesses, the finance industry and representative bodies and we felt that another presentation would be a good idea,’ he said.
‘We have got good coverage in the media and we seem to be hitting our target because over a third of companies have reregistered in six weeks. If that trend of businesses reregistering stopped, we would have to do something else to encourage them.’
