Records set to be rewritten again

THOSE athletics fans suffering from Olympic Games withdrawal symptoms are advised to get down to Foote’s Lane on Sunday.
The scene is the second Blue Islands British Challenge Cup and about 80 leading UK athletes drawn from several clubs are flying in to make another onslaught on Guernsey’s all-comers’ list.
At the inaugural 2006 event more than 20 all-comers’ bests fell to the visiting clubs, Woodford Green with Essex Ladies and Birchfield Harriers.
Two years on, both are back, as well as fellow Premiership giants Sale Harriers, otherwise known as City of Manchester.
And representing the Sportingbet Channel Islands AC will be Dale Garland, fresh from his trip to the Olympics, Lee Merrien and Tom Druce, as well as most of the Guernsey and Jersey Island Games squad members.
Match organiser Rob Batiste envisages more than a dozen all-comers’ marks falling, given decent conditions.
He is excited at the talent on show and is particularly looking forward to the sprint showdowns between Tim Abeyie, the UK number three over 200m, and former Great Britain international Allyn Condon.
‘I’m very condident that we will see the island all-comers’ 200m mark shattered by Sunday evening,’ said Batiste.
