MORE than 30 budding triathletes enjoyed the Granite Kids triathlon at the weekend.
Held at Pembroke, the competitors ran for approximately 100m on the beach, then took to the water for a 100 to 150 metre swim and then ran a course of up to 800m on the sand.
‘The conditions were excellent as the event took place on the hottest day of the year,’ said event organiser Alun Williams. ‘The only impediment was the packed beach, which meant that competitors had to deal with boules matches, more sedentary swimmers and sunbathing families on the course.’
Years 3 and 4 went first and there was a clear victory for Alex Rowe in an impressive time of 4min. 35sec. He came home 17 seconds ahead of second-placed Alex Scholes.
