AS PREDICTED, Guernsey dominated the 42nd Sark to Jersey Rowing Race at the weekend. In a repeat of last year’s results, Sarnian crews took the top three places in what is regarded as the inter-insular of rowing.

And it was the men’s sliding fours boat of FRM, made up of Geoff Gavey, Ian Atkinson, the Harradine brothers, Matt and Dan, and cox Jane Menzies, that crossed the line first.

They completed the 19-mile course from Dixcart Bay in Sark to Jersey’s Bonne Nuit Bay in a time of 1hr 54min. 7sec.

‘Despite being a nice day, it was probably too warm for us to row and for the first half an hour we were seriously challenged,’ said Dan Harradine afterwards. ‘Then we drew away and our biggest challenge came from the Guernsey pairs crew who stayed with us right until the end. Fair play to them.’

Second place went to men’s pair Joe Paul and Paul Isaacs in their DDM Absolute boat. The third boat home was Guernsey sliding men’s four Julius Baer.
