‘When I look at it 20 years ago, there were three men’s divisions and now there’s four men’s teams in one league,’ said Steer, the new chairman of the Guernsey Volleyball Association.

‘People have gone off and tried other things. We’ve got to think how are we going to get more people playing the sport again.’

Steer said one way to get more involved was through initiatives such as the beach volleyball that was held at the weekend at Grandes Rocques.

‘We need people who go to these events and then get them playing on a Monday and Friday night [in the leagues],’ he said.
